In this international presentation, Common Core Diva Lynne Taylor examines behavior modification in education and the policies and programs she argues are influencing the attitudes, values, beliefs, and behavior of children and families. Connecting the UK and United States, Taylor discusses MINDSPACE and behavioral “nudges,” Social Emotional Learning (SEL), character education, behavior interventions, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, UNESCO, World Health Organization mental-health initiatives, community schools, OECD/PISA assessments, STEM education, and government-defined student outcomes. The presentation raises fundamental questions about parental rights, individual freedom, government influence over children’s behavior and mental health, and the increasing role schools can play beyond academics. It concludes with a discussion about resisting these systems, protecting families, homeschooling, and developing alternative education communities.
